What Is a Dental Implant?

Dentist performing a implant

A dental implant is essentially an artificial tooth that will be placed in the gap where a missing tooth used to be. They consist of two parts: the implant itself and the restoration. The implant is a small, screw-shaped titanium rod that will act as an artificial tooth root once placed by your doctor. The restoration is the dental prosthetic that will act as a replacement to your missing tooth. Together, they provide a sturdy, natural-looking, permanent solution for tooth loss.

At One Day Implants, we offer single-tooth, full-arch, and mini implants. This means that whether you’re missing one tooth, several teeth, or all your teeth, we can restore your smile. Oftentimes, we can complete your treatment in as little as one day. Thanks to our multi-doctor team and in-house laboratory, we can take care of every step of your dental implant treatment process under one patient-friendly roof. With our comfortable amenities, friendly team, and compassionate approach to dentistry, we are making it easy for you to get your dental health back on track and realize your dream smile.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

Look & Feel Natural

We custom craft each restoration in our in-house laboratory for maximum comfort and aesthetics. Your implant restoration will be color-matched and precisely shaped to match your teeth, ensuring a seamless, natural look.

Permanent Restoration

Dental implants are the only restorative option that can last 30 years or more with proper care. Because your dental implant will be surgically placed into your jaw bone, they will never shift or move unlike dentures or a bridge.

Easy to Care for

Once your implant has healed, you can care for it just like you would a normal tooth. Continue to brush two times a day, floss once a day, and see your dentist for a cleaning and oral exam every six months.

Dental Hygenists Working

The One-Day Implant Process

We know that many potential candidates for a dental implant put off treatment as it is hard to find the time in a busy schedule and take off work for multiple dental appointments. As opposed to visiting multiple specialists, at One Day Implants, we are able to offer many of our patients a complete treatment in one day. What makes our treatment different is that we handle all steps of the implant process in-house.

First, our doctors will approve you for treatment during your initial consultation. Once approved, we will begin working on your custom treatment plan using our advanced technology like Cone Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), intraoral scanners, and intraoral cameras. Using these advanced tools, we will be able to create an extremely detailed treatment plan for precise, successful placements. Our skilled, in-house ceramicists will also use these scans and images to start building your temporary crown (if applicable) and your permanent implant restoration, or prosthetic tooth.

Next is the implant placement. Your doctor will clean and numb your mouth before making a small incision and precisely placing your implant. We also offer a variety of sedation options to ensure you stay calm and comfortable throughout the entire procedure. We will place your temporary restoration and walk you through the post-op care guidelines. You’ll leave our office with a completely transformed smile. Then, once your permanent restoration has been made you’ll return to have it placed.

Healing & Aftercare

Initial Healing

The initial healing process will vary based on your individual level of oral health, but it usually takes about a week or so after the implant placement. Slight swelling and tenderness is common, but will subside quickly if you care for your mouth properly. For example, it is important to be very gentle when brushing around the implant site and eat soft foods. You can manage any discomfort with over the counter pain medications like ibuprofen. In about 7 days, most patients are able to return to a normal diet. Be sure to follow your doctor’s post-op care to ensure proper healing and help you avoid any risk of infection.

Osseointegration

While you will recover from the oral surgery in about a week, it will take 3-6 months for your dental implant to completely bond to your jaw bone. This process is called osseointegration and it is what makes dental implants a permanent restoration. Titanium is biocompatible, meaning it has the unique ability to bond to your bone tissue permanently. The dental implant will function as a natural part of your mouth, stimulating the jaw bone as you chew, which in turn prevents bone resorption. This also prevents your other teeth from shifting into the gap where your tooth used to be, preserving the function and appearance of your bite. During the osseointegration process, you’ll come in for regular checkups to ensure you are healing properly.

Am I a Good Candidate for a One-Day Implant?

Dental implants are a great option for many patients with a healthy jaw bone. If you’ve been missing a tooth for a while, bone resorption can occur. If this is the case, additional oral surgeries may be required to prepare your jaw bone for dental implant placement.
